City Branch held an EU Referendum Question Time and supper on Friday 22nd April 2016. It was a sell-out event with a waiting list for tickets.
The evening was hosted by City Chairman Les Hixson and his fantastic committee. A panel of national and local speakers faced EU questions from Members.
The Chairman for the evening was Nick Thomas - Chairman of CDC who ensured an up-beat, fun and professional atmosphere.
The Panellists were - Richard Ashworth MEP, Rory Broomfield (Director of The Freedom Association and the Better Off Out Campaign), Cllr Mark Dunn (CDC), and Cllr Simon Oakley (WSCC & CDC).
City Branch Chairman Les Hixson said "we cannot thank the Chairman and The Panellists enough. There were 2 speakers for and 2 speakers against staying in the EU.Their answers to a number of tricky questions were balanced, clear, concise, and insightful. They worked hard to ensure that all our Members got as much information on both sides of the EU argument as possible. The evening was great fun, some brought patriotic table cloths, flags, bowler hatted and beret with onion string raffle ticket sellers, and Julia Hixson in an eclectic mix of 'love EU' badge, and union flag cheerleader skirt and neck scarf"
Sue Spooner took took charge of all the catering arrangements and she and her team excelled!
John Garrett organised some splendid wines, Barbara his wife very efficiently controlled the mass of bookings, and Len Macey ran a particularly successful fundraising raffle which consisted of a wonderful selection of hampers and goods from around the EU (Greek Gourmet Hamper, Italian Delights, Finest French Pineau, Best Scotch Whisky....)
Audio visuals were provided by local young entrepreneurs Will Harrison and Ryan Pantling - in their final GCSE year - what a professional team! They are availble to asssist with any audio and visual events you may be planning (contact details: 07930173670. Email: [email protected]).
The evening was a huge success and thanks go out the surrounding Branches of the Association who brought tables of their Members. City Branch wish all the Branches to know that their support is invaluable and much appreciated.
