‘PERKS’ THROUGH LOCKDOWN
Falklands War veteran and Member Roger Perks has kept busy through shielding lockdown cultivating show winning dahlias, gladioli and a vast array of fruit and vegetables.
At this time of year Roger is normally out and about at flower and produce shows right across Chichester winning a huge array of trophies and prizes for his spectacular blooms.
Yet lockdown put all that on hold this year so Roger is instead bringing joy to his community by giving everyone from his favourite Checkout Lady to friends, neighbours and family beautiful freshly picked bouquets and generous bags full of salad and veg. His beefsteak tomatoes are giant and absolutely delicious!
Roger said ‘Preparing for the shows and right through show season I am usually flat out - I am passionate about growing bigger and better specimens every year. This year has been a real challenge but I keep positive and always try to make the best of every day. I am a massive fan of Gillian Keegan MP and normally present her with a huge bunch of my fresh flowers but this year she will have to wait a little longer – till we can all meet up’.
Roger is pictured with some of his award winning blooms and sporting one of his many Liverpool FC outfits including matching Liverpool FC mask. He is a massive Liverpool FC fan – as is Gillian.
